The project is a collaboration with residents of Manor Street, Cliftonpark Avenue and the surrounding neighbourhood, with the aim of encouraging a community–led process for adapting one of the blighted, vacant spaces that have developed around Belfast’s ‘peace walls’. 

Following several intensive workshops, three separate groups of residents of the Manor Street interface (each representing a different age group) developed concept ideas for what they thought could replace the ‘peaceline’, infilling the surrounding vacant land with structures and functions that might contribute positively to the local community and streetscape. 

Despite persistent segregation of residential neighbourhoods, people now work, shop and play together in other areas of everyday life.  The inner–city streetscape should, over time, adapt to become a manifestation of the continually unfolding story of Belfast’s peacetime emergence.  The changing lives and experiences within the city must be allowed to shape it.
